Welcome to our month long buy less plan! Read here to get caught up on what’s going on.
Product: Don’t you already have enough holiday decorations? Doesn’t everybody?
What gets to me is that this time of year the themed knick-knacks come out of EVERYWHERE.
We have all these opportunities to buy things that are only useful one time of year. Strangely enough most of these things are of quite low quality yet they don’t really get a chance to wear out when they’re only good for use one or two months out of the year. Yet somehow every year enough holiday themed stuff shows up in stores to restock every home to the gills.
It keeps showing up in such great numbers because we keep buying it. We don’t need it. Remember? You already got it last year, and the year before, and the year….
Just use what you already have. If you are up for a change, trade with a friend. Don’t buy more.
Reason to buy less: No one needs encyclopedias anymore. The internet has all the stuff and even without the internet the library can hook you up better than any door to door sold encyclopedia set from 50 years ago.
Suggestion: A great way to help yourself buy less is to take some time to volunteer with those who have less. The point is not to feel guilty about having more than them; the point is to realize that those that have very little stuff can really be very happy people filled with gratitude for the little they do have.
We can learn a lot from those with different life experiences. They can teach us contentment and in return we can help them in some way when we volunteer. It’s a win-win!
