Welcome to our daily challenge! Wait! Don’t go away!! Read here to get caught up on what’s going on. (And coming in in the middle is totally cool.)
Objective: Donate/trash nineteen objects (or sell/gift them)
Definition of “overwhelming”: If you can’t handle the thought of dealing with a particular situation because it’s just too much and you shut down instead of doing something about it.
Reason: You want to be responsible for everything under you control. The more stuff you have the more you have to be responsible for. Let’s go back to the feeling of when we were kids and we just had one room of ‘treasures’ and not 15.
Suggestion: We’ve been struggling through some more difficult challenges the last couple of days. How ‘bout another easy one?
“WHAT? That’s not easy!” you might say. I’m not saying it will be fun to get into it but it will be easy to find our quota here, I think.
Here’s a tip. (Strangely similar to yesterday’s.) Take everything, EVERYTHING off/out of your desk. Now slowly put back what you need and what has a place.
Junk mail- toss. Old statements- shred (and then sign up for electronic statements.) Those highlighters that were expensive but you still reach around them for the cheap yellow one?- donate. How about odd sized envelopes? Or pads of scrap paper that are never quite the size you want at the time so they are always left while you blow through the Post-Its? Don’t wait to use anything eventually. Please take my word for it. It’s not worth it (and I’m about as frugal as they come guys. You gotta listen to me. It’s not worth it.)
Once you’re on a roll this one will be both fun and easy and very fulfilling when you’re done. I know because I have to do my own desk WAY often. : )
